What is AgriKidsNZ?
AgriKidsNZ is for primary school students aged 8-13. Membership is FREE and participation is largely based in the annual fun-filled competition series which runs alongside the TeenAg Competitions and FMG Young Farmer Contest.
The aim is to promote the fun side of agriculture while children develop valuable skills and make lifelong friendships. Members don’t need to come off a farm, they just need to have a love of the land and be keen to get their hands a bit dirty!
How it works:
Every year, hundreds of children from all over New Zealand compete in their local Regional Final Competition.
The competition is open and free to all members, pre-registration is required as spots do fill up. AgriKidsNZ compete in teams of three and a typical Regional Final consists of eight practical and theoretical modules to promote the learning of all the different aspects of our industry.
The seven top scoring teams from the preliminary round then progress to the Race-Off where competitors must compete in a number of tasks as quickly and as carefully as possible. The format of the competition is the same, but the specifics change from year to year.
While the challenges are predominantly agriculturally based, children from all backgrounds will enjoy the competition as it’s a way for them to get outside and get active with their friends. All they need to bring is determination and enthusiasm!
The top three teams at each Regional Final are then invited to the Grand Final to battle it out for the champion's title.
If you know of someone that wants to become a member, get them to head along to the competition!
